Independent Contract Administration
A number of new construction contracts make provision for the involvement of an Independent Contract Administrator. On large projects we find that the appointment of an appropriately experienced professional, who is separate and independent from the design team, provides a level of objectivity and focus which is rarely achieved when the architect or another design consultant acts in this role.
Large projects and fast procurement require design professionals to fulfil a number of distinct roles, and balancing resources between design team leadership, co-ordination of design, the specific design discipline and contract administration is often very difficult. The separation of the contract administration role allows design professionals to concentrate on design, co-ordination and the provision of information for construction and ensures that the administration of the contract is properly and professionally resourced in an objective and fair manner.
PDM Consultants have a number of experienced Contract Administrators from a range of professional backgrounds to suit a wide variety of project and procurement methods. Clients, designers and contractors who have worked on projects where roles have been split in this way invariably support the approach and extol the benefits of the clear and professional management it provides.
